Matt Hu, Founding Partner & CIO

Matt founded FengHe Fund Management Group in Singapore in 2009. As the Founding Partner and CIO, he manages our flagship FengHe Asia Fund, which has been recognized as one of the most consistent and best-performing L/S equity funds in Asia over the past decade. With 34 years of investment experience throughout Asia in both public and private markets, Matt has been at the forefront of equity investment and research in Asia. He started his career in 1990 and was one of the pioneer institutional asset managers in China and Hong Kong. In 2005, Matt moved to Singapore and started investing across the broader Asian region. During 2008 to 2009, he was an investor and chairman of a Taiwan-based tech manufacturing company. This began his expertise in investing in technology supply chains, which had become a key pillar of the FengHe Asia Fund today.

John Wu, Founding Partner & Chairman

John Wu is the Founding Partner and Chairman of FengHe Group where he is responsible for the strategy and management of the group businesses. He manages the FengHe Opportunities Fund and leads our Venture Capital business and held important roles in the successes of our key VC portfolio companies.

John is a highly accomplished technologist, entrepreneur and investor with more than three decades of experience at the forefront of technology markets. John began his career in Silicon Valley in 1989 most notably leading Yahoo! Inc.’s search and e-commerce technology engineering team from 1996 to 1999 and was awarded a patent for his work in “semi-structured search”. He went on to become angel investor and inaugural CTO of Alibaba Group from 2000 to 2008 and was instrumental in building the foundations in Alibaba Group which has become one of the largest global technology companies today.

As an active investor since 2000, John has also identified, invested in and nurtured several successful companies, such as Huazhu Hotels Group, Focused Photonics, Jumei.com, WeDoctor, Viva Biotech etc. He was named China Angel Investor of the Year 2014 by Entrepreneur, China edition.

John graduated from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science with High Distinction.

Kwek Hyen Yong, Managing Partner & CEO

Hyen Yong is the Managing Partner and CEO of FengHe Group, where he is responsible for managing our Group's businesses. With more than two decades of extensive professional and leadership experience in Asia, Hyen Yong has played a crucial role in FengHe’s growth. He initially joined FengHe as the head of venture capital investment team in 2011 and later helped start and manage its hedge fund business since its inception.

Prior to joining FengHe, Hyen Yong served as Vice President in the investment banking division of Kim Eng Securities Group, where he established an extensive track record of advising on investments and other corporate finance transactions across Asia. Beginning his career as a KPMG Scholar, Hyen Yong specialized in audit services for financial institutions and listed companies. He also served with distinction in the Singapore Armed Forces, where he held the position of Company Commander in an Armour unit. He was awarded the Sword of Merit for graduating among the top of his cohort from Officer Cadet School. Hyen Yong holds a Bachelor of Accountancy Degree (First Class Honours) from Nanyang Business School in Singapore and is a Chartered Accountant of Singapore.
